No Go On Constable

The voting has now closed on the recent poll asking whether we should make another attempt to sign James Constable from Oxford United.

The majority (66%) voted 'no', we shouldn't submit a new bid for the experienced striker, presumably wanting Mark McGhee to move on to other targets. 22% said they would go back and make another offer whilst one Gashead was undecided.

I'm absolutely of the belief that we should now begin to look elsewhere instead of throwing all our eggs in one basket and hoping to sign him. I think there are other players out there of similar or better quality that we could be trying to sign. I've not seen enough from Constable to bid in excess of £150,000 and it's going to take much more than that to tempt Oxford to accept our offer, so we're better off looking elsewhere.

We have ourselves one tall, strong player up top in Matt Harrold, so do we need another? I know their games are different as Constable isn't a target man, but I can't help feeling somebody like Izale McLeod may be a better option. He's a goalscorer, he feeds off flick-ons and through balls and hit 18 for a poor Barnet side last season - the perfect partner to Harrold?

It remains to be seen who McGhee will trail now, although it's thought that he's in the market for 2 new strikers this summer. I've been saying it for a while but hopefully we'll be making some signings in all areas of the pitch in the near future.
