Stanley Leaves By Mutual Consent

Midfielder Craig Stanley has today had his 2 year Bristol Rovers contract cancelled by mutual consent after just 12 months. The former Morecambe man took to Twitter over the weekend to express that he would announce some 'good news' early this week and this is likely to be what he was referring to.

Any other player would have been happy to sit out the final year of their contract on a tidy wage but it's testament to Stanners that he wouldn't settle for anything other than a starting berth in any side. Mark McGhee informed him that he was free to search for a new club over the summer and its likely he has his next move lined up already, with Morecambe one potential destination and Luton Town another. I'm sure all Gasheads will wish him well in his future career because despite his lack of all-round midfield ability he always put in 100% and worked tirelessly, unlike some former players in recent years. He failed to instil any steel to our midfield and was not the creative playmaker we so desperately lacked, meaning he did not possess the tools to command a starting spot. As a result this is probably the best move for all concerned.

I'd like to extend my best wishes to Craig at a new club, unless they're playing us of course.
