Iain Turner To Start Tomorrow?

This evening I've been chatting to a journalist for the Swindon Advertiser and he tells me Swindon trialist Iain Turner, a goalkeeper formerly of Preston and Everton, will play for Rovers tomorrow against Bristol City.

Mark McGhee has no made secret of his desire to bring in another goalkeeper to cover Scott Bevan and challenge Conor Gough to a starting place and Turner would be a top signing at this level. The journo in question, Andrew Warren, explained that Paolo Di Canio is very interested in making him the Swindon number 2 for next season at League One level. However if he impresses Mark McGhee tomorrow and gets offered a contract it's almost certain he'd be our number 1, albeit at League Two level. It's a drop in division but the draw of regular first team football may be too good to turn down at the age of 28.

If this rumour turns out to be incorrect then I do apologise, but from what I understand he will be involved in the Rovers squad tomorrow at Ashton Gate. I for one hope he performs well and gets offered something - his pedigree is good and he'd be a top asset at this level.

We shall wait and see.
