Gas Defeated By York

Rovers crashed to an embarrassing 4-1 defeat at Bootham Crescent as York City ran rampant against a clueless defence. All 5 goals came inside 33 minutes and it was the home team who took the lead after Garry Kenneth headed in to his own net following a left wing cross. Parity was restored just 60 seconds later when the impressive Tom Eaves drilled home a tremendous strike past goalkeeper Michael Ingham. Just when you thought the whirlwind spell just quarter of an hour in to proceedings was over, York took the lead yet again. Ashley Chambers netted the first of his brace with a well placed header. Just 3 minutes after that the Minstermen made it 3 when Jason Walker rifled home before the rout was complete just past the half hour mark when Chambers deftly lifted the ball over Sam Walker. To call it ridiculous would be an understatement of the highest order. This simply cannot be allowed to happen.

You couldn't help but get the feeling of 'here we go again' at 1-0 but having fought back immediately hope was restored that we could take something from the game. Unfortunately though our inept defence conceded 3 further goals to destroy any chance we had of taking points back to Bristol with us.

Just what does Mark McGhee think he's doing? He continues to play players out of position and in formations that don't suit the strengths we have. Can he not see this or does he genuinely believe there is some logic in his thoughts?

This can't be allowed to carry on any longer because it's becoming an embarrassment. Bristol Rovers should not be struggling in the bottom two of League 2 and lose games effortlessly against the likes of Dagenham and York (with all due respect). We're not even putting up fights against these teams because we are just so poor in midfield and at the back. The players don't seem to have the mental toughness required to dig deep and fight on the pitch which is worrying when you're involved in a scrap like we are. We need warriors out there, not timid cowards. They need to stand up and be counted and under Mark McGhee they are not. I've supported him for a long time and always believed that he would get us on track this season but with the continued churning out of woefully poor performances you have to act decisively to salvage the season. We have every right to aim high and in this division it should not be unrealistic for Gasheads to target promotion - now what we would view as a success is staying up. How utterly depressing.

I understand that Nick Higgs backed his man after the defeat to the Daggers but enough is enough now. We'd lost the game on Saturday after just 30 minutes of football which is simply not acceptable on the back of the losses we've endured over the past few months. Nick, please act in the best interests of this football club and relieve Mark of his duties before it's too late. We all crave stability but in the short-term we need to ensure we retain our Football League status and to make that a possibility we need to change things now. Mark is a great guy and was a pleasure to interview back in March of this year, where he spoke openly and honestly about what to expect over the summer months, but we're running out of time. He's well liked but sentiment must come second to what happens on the field and currently what is being dished up is beyond a joke.

We face an incredibly tricky game at home to Rotherham United next weekend and at this rate I can see nothing other than a hiding. Unless action takes place shortly...
