Bid For Bolger Rejected

Rovers have confirmed that an undisclosed bid has been rejected by Leicester City for centre back Cian Bolger. The Irishman has just finished his third loan spell with the club and the Foxes have indicated they are not looking to loan him out again, prompting John Ward to offer a 5-figure fee for the player. This has been rejected and it remains to be seen whether we can return with an improved offer.

I'm not quite sure what Leicester are wanting from us here. He's never played in their first team, is never likely too as they attempt to win promotion to the Premier League and is out of contract in the summer. If the reported figure of £50k has been turned down then I can't imagine it costing too much more to prise him away from the club. There are thought to be other clubs interested in acquiring his services but Rovers can't allow anybody to jump ahead of the queue. I'd say it was vital we got his signature on a permanent basis and would do whatever it takes to get him on board - hopefully Nick Higgs will see that not only will this strengthen us massively in our attempt to stay in the Football League, but it will also be a tremendous investment for the future with our ambitions to climb in to League One.

Please Gas, improve the offer and get him signed up.

Plus, released Aldershot striker Guy Madjo has been handed a 2-day training period with the club. Ward is taking a look at the 6ft striker who does boast a decent goalscoring record in a bid to discover whether he could be the target-man we desperately need. He was released by the Shots for an alleged attitude problem and enjoyed a loan spell with our last opponents Plymouth Argyle before Christmas.

Ward has also said that he hopes to make at least one more signing before Saturday's game against Gillingham at the Mem. No new names have been linked but it is thought to be a striker.
