Oumare Tounkara Trains With Rovers

Striker Oumare Tounkara, formerly of Sunderland, is training with Rovers this week in a bid to earn himself a contract - likely to be until the end of the season. The powerful forward joined the Black Cats in 2009 before undertaking two loan spells with League One side Oldham Athletic. He was released by Martin O'Neill at the end of last season and has been back in his native France since, but has taken the opportunity of a trial with John Ward's men.

At 6ft1 he is certainly a presence and would offer similar qualities to Ryan Brunt, who missed Saturday's 1-1 draw at Morecambe due to injury. Brunt was set to train today so isn't a serious concern, meaning that Oumare, if signed, is likely to provide competition for places going in to the final games of the season. He was chased by Nottingham Forest 18 months ago but a move didn't materialise.

With Matt Harrold's future looking to be in doubt any way, signing Tounkara would likely be the final nail in the coffin for the unfortunate target man.

Good luck Oumare.
