Parkes Wins Player Of The Month

Captain fantastic Tom Parkes this morning won the Npower League Two Player of the Month competition for his superb displays in the heart of our defence in January. Alongside new partner Mark McChrystal he has led by example and been a huge part of our improved defence under John Ward. It's a thoroughly deserved accolade for the 21 year old defender.

Unfortunately, however, John Ward, who was nominated for Manager of the Month, missed out to Martin Allen. This was hugely surprising as our revival under Ward has been incredible and was deserving of the award, which I think most League Two fans would have concurred with, but the voting panel decided Allen's exploits were more impressive. Controversial.

Whilst I'm disappointed for John and his coaching staff I'm sure he won't mind a single iota. We avoid the MotM curse and he can revel in the fact he has inspired Parkesy to an award. It's a real team effort and I think we can all be very proud of everyone for their efforts so far in 2013.

The squad have smiles on their faces as they join Parkes in photos with the award
