Despite the club's official Twitter account saying the pitch was still playable at around 11, it was immediately postponed upon the referee's arrival just before midday. Having seen a couple of photos it seems the pitch didn't look too bad but the decision was taken with little hesitation. Rotherham fans had already begun arriving in Bristol so they will be disappointed to have made a wasted trip and to be told the game was on one minute and then called off the next. Whilst Rovers have no control over the weather they perhaps could have laid covers down earlier this week to protect the pitch from the rain. Better communication today wouldn't have gone amiss either.
It looks likely Bristol Rugby's game tomorrow will get the go-ahead with drier weather anticipated overnight and in to the morning. The state of the pitch will have deteriorated massively by the time the game ends should any standing water remain pre-match. Oh dear.
