Krisztian Timar features in reserve team draw...

The Rovers XI that featured in todays friendly against Brentford can come out of the game knowing they took part in a bit of a thriller. The final score was 4-4, with Mustapha Carayol netting a hat-trick and Kayne McLaggon scoring the other, something which will certainly have boosted both players' confidence and handed a reminder to gaffer Paul Buckle of their quality.

Gary Sawyer made his return from a long-term injury to make his first appearance in a Rovers shirt since last season and he was joined by trialist Krisztian Timar in the Rovers back-line. The former Plymouth man played at the heart of the defence and it begs the question, do we need any more players?

Now, I'm of the belief that if the funds are there to do so, than there is no harm in strengthening the squad, as you never know when you may pick up a few injuries or suspensions. Add to that the fact Cian Bolger is only on loan and there is a risk we could be left depleted at centre back later in the season. If, and it's a big if, Bucks and Shaun North were impressed by Timar and the wages are there to bring him in, then we should do so. I've been concerned with our defence all season and although we are finding a bit of consistency there now, we need options, particularly down the middle and Timar is an experienced, strong defender who fits the bill.

I'm not sure he would be in a position to have too ridiculous a wage demand, seeing as he isn't currently at a club, so the potential is there for a relatively (and I say 'relatively' quite loosely) inexpensive yet quality centre half coming in to the club.

Saying all that, it could be irrelevant as we conceded 4 goals and Timar was part of the team that shipped them. Although it needs to be bared in mind that it is incredibly difficult to come in and impress at centre back when you've never played with the players around you before. Buckle will know that and I'm sure will make an informed decision on whether to sign him on or take a further look at him. For what it's worth, I don't think we will on this occasion, but it can only be a positive to be looking at players who could strengthen the squad.

In Buckle we trust...
