Darren Barr-ed from Gas move...

It's emerged today in the Scottish press that Rovers made a bid for Hearts defender Darren Barr prior to the Transfer Window closing last Tuesday. The one-time Scotland international has made only a few appearances due to injury this campaign and new Rovers boss Mark McGhee made a move to sign the former Falkirk loanee. Unfortunately the bid appeared to have been left and then later rejected by Hearts, who prevented the player from entering in to talks with us.

Barr admits he heard of the interest and didn't know whether he was going to 'move' or not, but that for the time being he was happy to try and get in to the side up north of the border. That's not to say Rovers won't make another attempt to sign him in the summer, but he'll still have a year remaining on his current deal so unless he's released from his contract it looks like we'd have to pay.

Personally I just think it's a refreshing change to see us linked with players of a good standard. Barr is a relatively good player that has been hampered with injuries over recent years, he'd certainly be a quality acquisition for us in League Two. Anyway, it wasn't to be and we need to forget about it... for the time being at least. It's all about focussing on our league campaign and continuing to improve.

Time to look ahead to the Morecambe game on Saturday now. The bloody weather best improve to prevent The Mem pitch from re-freezing. If it does the groundsmen need to do their job and ensure the covers are protecting the surface - we all want to watch the Gas again!
