Final Day: Dagenham & Redbridge (A)

The final day is dawning upon us and it's safe to say it's been a long and dramatic ride this year. We've finished as mid-table as you could possibly get, which suggests mediocrity, but the journey to this point has been anything but average.

The first five or so months were nothing short of horrendous. Supporting Rovers was no longer the highlight of the week, I think labelling it as self-inflicted torture would be more fitting. We put ourselves through hell watching the dross served up most of the time under you know who, but luckily we're not ending the campaign with him at the helm. Mark McGhee came in and uplifted the entire club, bringing a more professional approach to on the field affairs and instilling a winning attitude in to the players. It's been a pleasure to have some pride restored and we'll take confidence going in to next year now.

20 goal target for Matt Harrold
Dagenham & Redbridge are the team we conclude the season with and although we beat the Essex club comfortably 2-0 in the reverse fixture, they've been on a much better run over recent months. Managed by former Gas assistant manager John Still, the Daggers will be aiming to topple a resurgent Rovers and send their fans home happy for the summer. It'll be a close game I'm sure, but I'm still looking forward to my second visit to the London Borough of Barking and Dagenham Stadium. I think we'll edge it. I'm always positive that we can win. Hopefully, as Mark McGhee stated earlier, the players will be determined to get their teammate Matt Harrold up to the 20 goal mark. That's the incentive. Mustapha Carayol and Eliot Richards will no doubt want to end their successful campaigns on a high by netting themselves, so there's plenty of hope for an attacking display.

In an unexpected twist that's developed in the past 24 hours, new signing Conor Gough is in line to make his professional league debut to cover the injured Scott Bevan. Bevan had an operation earlier this week meaning he sits out the final game and Lance Cronin picked up a knock whilst on loan at Ebbsfleet, meaning McGhee had a big decision to make. An emergency loan signing was required and whilst Michael Poke was spoken about, the decision was made to loan in our new summer signing. Charlton have him under contract until the end of June and therefore he's still their player, so the Football League granted us permission to bring him in. It's somewhat of a fairytale ending to a great week for Gough and I'm sure I won't be the only one wishing him well for tomorrow. I look forward to seeing what he's all about - good luck Conor.

It'll be an entertaining final day and a win will be the perfect end to a topsy-turvy year. Together we are Mark McGhee's barmy army.

Up the Gas!
