Rovers Launch New Constable Bid

It's been confirmed by Oxford United chairman Kelvin Thomas that Rovers have come back with an improved offer for striker James Constable which will be considered over the weekend.

Constable in Oxford action
No figures have been given but an offer of around £180,000 has been bandied about as being the minimum the Oxford board would be willing to accept.

Interesting to note that they are considering the bid over the weekend - if the offer was unacceptable surely it would have been rejected straight away? Perhaps Thomas is waiting to see if an offer is received from another club over the next 48 hours that exceeds Rovers' bid, if they don't get one then it looks like ours could be accepted.

Constable has not had his best season in front of goal but is a defender's nightmare at this level, attracting offers from clubs like Bournemouth and Swindon Town over recent months. He turned all moves down in order to stay at the U's but now could be the time he seeks pastures new.

I'm sure we'll hear more on this developing transfer in due course.
