Defeat At Newport

Rovers fell to a 2-0 defeat against Newport County last night in the Welsh club's first game at their new home of Rodney Parade.

A goal from forgettable former striker Jefferson Louis and a second through Kris Fielden condemned Rovers to a defeat in their fourth pre-season run out of the summer. It was a lacklustre display that was improved in the second half with the introduction of David Clarkson and Mustpaha Carayol (among others) but we were still unable to score. The bright point of the game was the impressive performance of German trialist Fabian Broghammer who looked creative and menacing down the left flank following his introduction. Mark McGhee has explained that Broghammer will remain with the club throughout the rest of pre-season before a decision is made on whether he will be offered a contract. Another trialist is set to link up with Rovers at some point and although his identity has yet to be disclosed it is known that he is the son of a former team-mate of McGhee.

Next up in the pre-season programme is Yeovil Town on Saturday at Huish Park, before Tamworth and Bristol City line up against us next week.
