Joan Simun Edmundsson

After searching Twitter this morning I came across a Norwegian tweet that linked Rovers with Viking player Joan Simun Edmundsson - a midfielder/striker.

I followed a link to an article that says we are interested in signing the player and translated it as best I could in to English on Google Translate:

'Edmundsson were picked up by Aage Hareide from Newcastle in the winter. The Faroese national team man has struggled to play their way to a spot on the team in Viking - which basically was the main motive for his transition. Now Bristol Rovers wish him permanently or on loan, according to TV2. Rovers play at level four and picked up recently Ålgård Rogvi Baldvinsson.'

This could easily be the player Nick Higgs and Mark McGhee referred to at the Fun Day a few weeks ago as the 'exciting' midfield player we were chasing. They both said that he needed to sort out a release from his parent club before being able to sign and as Edmundsson has failed to make an impact at Viking following his move from Newcastle United, he could be the player that fits the bill. Even if we were required to pay a fee I can't imagine it being much as he only joined Viking in February and they clearly don't see him playing in their first team any time soon.

This could be a far-fetched rumour that doesn't bear fruit but I thought I'd stick my neck out and post it... it may happen!
