Har-ruled Out

Bitter blow: Matt ruled out for season
The bad luck that has clouded Rovers since early August has continued and dealt the club another huge blow in the last 24 hours. Striker Matt Harrold took to Twitter last night to state that he has damaged his Anterior Cruciate Ligament and will be out of action for the rest of this season. Manager Mark McGhee made no secret of the fact they were anticipating a lengthy lay-off for Harrold but he could not have imagined that the target man would be ruled out for 7-8 months.

This time frame has yet to be confirmed by the club as more tests are required to determine the extent of the damage. This injury is not only a massive blow to the team but to Matt as well, who may find himself out of contract by the time he is fit enough to return to action. Hopes were high among supporters that he could finish as our top scorer for the second season in a row but that is clearly not going to be the case now.

It leaves Rovers decimated up front with David Clarkson and Eliot Richards the only first team players available for selection. It was believed a move to sign a striker was being devised prior to Matt's injury blow but it remains to be seen whether or not plans have now changed. It appears that more than one forward is required otherwise we truly will be down to the bare bones for the remainder of this season. This really isn't the sort of news we needed heading in to tonight's massive game with Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.

Best of luck in your recovery Matt, you'll be missed by the team that's for sure.
