Plymouth Argyle 1-1 Bristol Rovers (League Two)

Rovers came from a goal down to earn a deserved point at Plymouth Argyle last night, with Tom Parkes the unlikely hero.
Kenneth in action

After dominating the first 15 minutes we failed to find a breakthrough and the home side began to assert some pressure of their own. We fell behind half an hour in when Argyle midfielder Conor Hourrihane unleashed an unstoppable 25 yarder in to the back of the net beyond Sam Walker. Typical and you would have been forgiven for feeling as though we would go and lose badly. But we didn't.

Mark McGhee was 'enraged' at half-time and made that perfectly clear to his players. It was a much changed line-up to the one that began at Gillingham on Saturday as Garry Kenneth was handed his debut for the club. Fabian Broghammer was given his first start too.

Second half we were a much better side and took the game to our hosts. Substitutions were made early by McGhee and one of them, Joe Anyinsah, had a hand in our equaliser with 20 minutes left. Anyinsah found David Clarkson, who then set up centre half Tom Parkes to score from a tight angle. Using the outside of his foot he guided the ball past Jake Cole in the Plymouth goal and Rovers were back in it. The pressure afterwards was mainly thrust upon those in Green and there were a few chances for us to score the much needed winner. Clarkson saw an effort blocked when it looked like heading in and Eliot Richards was unable to hit the target when he shot from outside the box. No matter how hard we tried we were unable to score a second.

Ultimately the final whistle sounded and the spoils were shared but there were positives to take from the game. Kenneth made an impressive debut and grew in to the game massively. He looked as if he could be the player we've desperately lacked at the back this season and he can only get better with each passing game. We came from behind to draw the game and this was without any new recruits joining us before the game as had been speculated. An agreement was reached with a Championship club to sign a striker but the player in question was on wages that would have exceeded our wage cap so no deal could be completed. It is believed however that a striker should be signed before Saturday and the Evening Post reckon there could be further 'surprise signings' made in the next few days. Interesting.

We'll wait and see what develops pre-Fleetwood.
