Michael Smith Signs New 2 Year Deal

Right-back and likely recipient of 'player of the year' Michael Smith has this afternoon committed himself to the club for another two years. His current deal was set to expire this summer and Rovers have acted swiftly in order to retain his services with his good form not likely to have gone unnoticed by League One and Championship clubs.

Smudge, who told me when I interviewed him a month or two ago that he wanted to stay, has put in consistent displays all season and cemented himself as our first choice right back ahead of Danny Woodards. He's a firm fan's favourite now and this news will undoubtedly prove popular with everybody connected to the club.

It's hoped he is the first of many players who will sign new deals with the club in the coming weeks as John Ward begins to shape his squad for next season. This is a huge piece of the jigsaw already in place now though so well done to Nick Higgs and the board for getting it done!
