Lockyer Inks 2 Year Contract

Lifted from: www.bristolrovers.co.uk
Young defender/midfielder Tom Lockyer has signed his 2 year contract with the club and celebrated by scoring a brace in Lewis Haldane's testimonial yesterday evening. He scored from close range before firing a tremendous half-volley from outside the penalty area into the bottom corner.

John Ward was delighted to see the teenager sign his contract and believes we could well see a lot of him very quickly next season. Ward explained that at the beginning of his tenure in December he was forced to have Lockyer around the first team squad due to injuries but by the end of the campaign he was involved on 'merit'. Lockyer made his debut in our 3-0 away triumph against Fleetwood Town and made 3 other appearances between then and the end of April.

He is considered a versatile defender who can operate anywhere along the back-line and he is also at home in a central midfield position too. He's a cool customer on the ball and likes to pick out a pass when necessary too. By the looks of his shooting ability last night he also looks a threat when approaching the opposition penalty box which is a good quality to have.

Congratulations to Tom, he's been a consistent part of the youth team's success this season and seems driven to become a Rovers first team regular in the future. He's highly rated by everybody involved in the club and has the leadership abilities that Tom Parkes possesses too. He's got a bright future, just like a lot of our other Centre of Excellence graduates.

The club are hoping to have Ollie Clarke's and Oliver Norburn's contract situations tied up shortly while winger Ellis Harrison replied 'soon' to the question 'when will you be signing' at yesterday's match.

It seems to be coming along quite nicely at the moment.
