Rovers Sell Out Away Allocations At Exeter City & Newport County

Last week tickets for our first game of the season on August 3rd away at Exeter City went on sale to priority group 1 members with just over 1000 available. Interest was always expected to be huge considering new season excitement and the fact it's a West Country derby but nobody expected the mad rush that both Pirate Leisure and the Supporters Club shop experienced. By early afternoon we had completely sold out.

Tickets for Newport County, therefore, were expected to be like gold dust. We had a smaller allocation and the fixture sees Rovers renewing an old rivalry with our second most local Football League club. There was social networking talk that Gasheads were prepared to queue for tickets from 7am this morning, 2 hours before either retail outlet opened, which highlights the fear everybody had that they could miss out if they didn't act quickly. There were no 7am queues but by the time 8.45am came around there were long queues and many impatient Rovers fans stood in line. Tickets were flying off the shelf and it came as no surprise that inside 90 minutes of them going on sale we had sold out.

To sell out our first two away games of the season is a remarkable achievement and to do so weeks before the match gets played highlights a need for bigger allocations if at all possible. This, in theory, should be achievable as no League Two club sells out home areas and therefore there would be room elsewhere in the ground to house extended away followings. It's a problem for us and I'm sure Portsmouth will find this a real issue as well.

If ever there was a need for a season ticket it could be this season. Not only is it value for money in terms of home matches but it also provides you with group 1 priority to away games. If we perform well in the early part of the campaign then there are likely to be further incidents of quick sell outs and nobody will want to miss out.
