Good point?

The Gas returned from Roots Hall, home of league leaders Southend United, with a point yesterday after substitute Matt Harrold's headed home an equaliser 11 minutes after Neil Harris opened the scoring.

On the face of it a point away from home against the side top of the league is fantastic, but should we be slightly worried by the fact we only mustered one effort on target and had to defend like lions for the whole game? It would be easy to worry and criticise Buckle for the lack of attacking threat yesterday but we should also be encouraged by the fact we defended so well - even if we were lucky on the occasions they hit the woodwork.

My fear now is that PB will set us up to not be beaten in games. We'd be defending for a game with little attacking threat - avoiding defeats will keep him his job, pushing for wins with the worry of conceding on the counter could lose him the hotseat.

I hope he'd have more pride and ambition than to do this, but I wouldn't put it past him if it means he keeps his job!

Credit must be paid to Scott Bevan yesterday who made some superb saves to keep us in the game. His team mates ran and congratulated him for a couple of the stops which not only emphasises how good the saves were but just how good the team spirit is. Danny Woodards, Byron Anthony, Lee Brown, Gary Sawyer and Matt Gill deserve special mentions and on any other day their performances would have earned them MOM, but the entire team deserve credit. Chris Zebroski played up top on his own and ran his heart out but with little reward in his isolation in their half, whilst Craig Stanley and Andy Dorman played really well to support the defence.

We all know the massive threat Mustapha Carayol and Joe Anyinsah carry when running at the opposition, however they had 3 men gang up on them at all times which limited their effect on our forward play - make no mistake though, they both worked their socks off.

A good team performance, even if we lacked any real penetration attacking-wise. A good point, but the real challenge will come next week when we fact AFC Totton live on ITV. It'll be interesting to see how that goes!
