Paul Smith |
It's been tweeted on the official Rovers Twitter page that the club hope to have former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper Paul Smith in goal tomorrow evening against Ipswich Town, with BBC Radio Bristol reporting that we want to complete the signing today.
This comes as a welcome boost as the goalkeeping situation is one that has proven tricky over the summer. But not only do we now look like sorting out our predicament but we could be set to sign a good quality player. Smith had been with Forest for a few seasons and helped earn them promotion to the Championship in 2008 when he registered a tremendous 24 clean sheets. This feat won him the Puma Golden Glove award for League One.

Dave Beasant |
Aside from the signing of Smith, Mark McGhee also hopes to sign up Dave Beasant as the club's new part-time goalkeeping coach. Beasant had a long and distinguished career in English football and began professionally with the original Wimbledon in 1979. He had spells at Chelsea and Newcastle United and amassed in excess of 750 club appearances before his retirement in 2004. He currently coaches at the Glenn Hoddle Academy but McGhee wants to bring him in as a new member of his coaching team. It's been revealed he was at the club training ground today which can only be a good thing and we may get confirmation of him joining by the end of play today.
If anything official gets announced I'll talk you through the ins and outs of the deals.
Will keep my fingers crossed for both these deals to go through. I feel these two men would be good acquisitions for us. I look forward to further updates soon Nath.
